The Kansas City singer joins Rich Nation Entertainment with a five-song debut EP, ANYTIME, on the way.
Mike Boss has spent decades in the music industry, and he loves R&B. He is also hard to please. So when the Rich Nation Entertainment founder says a new singer made him stop and listen, he knows exactly what that means.
That singer is Bombay Jay.
Born Anthony Beatty in Kansas City, Missouri, Bombay Jay began singing at seven. At 15, he joined a vocal group called Kauz. The group appeared in a Chili’s commercial, giving him his first glimpse of music reaching beyond the people who already knew his name. His grandmother was his biggest fan, and her belief in him stayed with him as he pursued the career he wanted.
He grew up studying artists who knew how to make a love song feel urgent: Jodeci, Hi-Five, Joe, Case and Gerald Levert. Their influence lives in his approach to R&B, where desire can sound confident one moment and leave someone exposed the next. Listeners who love Silk’s sensuality, Jodeci’s intensity and Dru Hill’s vocal drama will recognize the tradition he comes from.
Bombay Jay writes about love, sex and emotion, but he isn’t limiting himself to one subject. His aim is to make people feel what he feels in a song. That ambition caught the attention of Boss, who has heard plenty of singers promise to bring feeling back to R&B. Bombay Jay convinced him through the music.
Now signed to Rich Nation Entertainment LLC and its partners, Bombay Jay is preparing ANYTIME, a five-song debut EP that includes its title track. The release will give listeners a chance to hear why a label founder who is difficult to win over chose to put his name behind this Kansas City singer.
For anyone who misses the kind of R&B that could make a late-night confession feel larger than life, Bombay Jay is a name to remember. ANYTIME is the project to look for.
