A More Narrow Focus On Musical Sample's And Collaborations With Multi-Talented/Promising Artist Scilence

Hi Scilence, It's great to have you here doing this interview with us today at Billboard Hiphop. I've been personally watching you on your grind and I'm a big fan. Today I wanted to dig a little deeper into the samples and features you chose for your projects. So with that being said, can you tell us about all the other samples you used on "The Red Cup Demo", besides your epic intro song "Josè Josè".

So that's actually, the "Josè Josè" song is the only sample I've ever used. but I know what you might be referring too. So there's a guy's voice who often appears on my songs like Sweet Heart, These Females, Mayweather, Hollywood DMT, and Heights. And for some reason people always think that his voice is a sample that I found from somewhere (laughs). He's actually a really good and dear friend of mine 1mic.

Yes, I thought those were samples used in those songs as well (laughs). So tell us more about the artist 1mic.

He's a super talented artist and we've actually recorded a ton of unreleased songs together. I remember the times when we would have a bunch of people in the studio with us, but it would only be me and him recording for hours. He really got me out of my comfort zone. We would take turns finding random beats off of youtube and he would choose beats that I wasn't used to rapping on and that I would never choose. That really made me have to go and unlock a new creative side to myself, which I didn't know I had the ability to do. He's a great artist and close friend.

I can't help but to notice, on the songs 1mic is on you don't have him down as a featured artist. Why is that?

Hmmm....well I thought about putting his name down as a feature but I decided not too because my fanbase can be.....very stubborn at times (laughs). I've had to take songs off of music platforms before because my fans didn't like the featured artist's verse. So I didn't want to mislead fans that he was actually going to lay a whole verse down on the songs. 1mic just added to the overall ambiance of my projects, so it wasn't necessary to add his name. The only actual feature I have till this day is "Bizarre".

But I noticed you had a feature on your song "Breakfast is for Champs pt. 1" from "The Solo Cup E.P". And how come we never heard the featured artist's verse?

(Laughs) you're really digging my friend! So, long story short it was a lot going on behind the scenes with that song. I made the executive decision to fade out Champs verse because I felt like he could of went harder on it. He's not here to defend his point so I won't go into details about it. It was just an agree to disagree type of situation.

So why did you keep his name on the song since we never heard his verse?

I kept his name on there as a featured artist because I really and truly believe in him. And as my music keeps getting bigger and bigger, I want people to listen through my catalog and at least wonder who is Champ, for her to basically go and write a whole song about him? It's extremely rare when you see a goat like Champ in the flesh. He will always be a goat in my book. This man can rap his a** off! There's actually three more minutes left on that beat that I also faded out along with Champs verse. I decided to add the "part 1" to the end of the song title just to leave the possibilities open to a part two.

So, when do you think we can expect that part two?

I have no idea (laughs)!

Sure, I'm currently working on my new project titled "Scilence Unplugged (The Live LP)". It's basically a live acoustic rendition of a bunch of fan favorite songs. This album is more intimate and I'll be mixing the song's on here much differently. I think the fans will really appreciate the twist I put on all these songs. It's definitely a slower paced vibe but I tried to keep all of the important elements in all the songs, so fans can still remember why they fell in love with the originals. This project so far is a mix of jazz, latin, and classical, while still managing to infuse my original hip hop/ electronic style. I can't wait for people to hear this project. By the way, I'll be releasing "Scilence Unplugged (The Live LP) on January 1, 2023.

Lastly, why did you decide to go with calling naming it "Scilence Unplugged (The Live LP)? It just seems like you would of called it something with the name "Red Cup" or "Solo Cup" within in the album title because that seems like more your theme.

Well don’t get me wrong because I have thought about that. But I’m definitely evolving as an artist and mixing engineer. I was hesitant with the album title, but decided to at least keep the word "the" referring too ("The" Live LP). I want people to already get the impression that this album will be different, so I needed to lose that "red cup" theme temporarily. I got the inspiration to do a live album from one of my favorite bands in the whole wide world, Korn. Their

Can you tell our readers what they can expect from you in the future?

MTV Unplugged album was amazing and changed my whole outlook on music. I was also inspired by Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" and "The Eminem Show". (Laughs) I was so close to calling it "The Scilence  LP" or "The Scilence Show", but I didn't want to bite off of Em's style too much. But I did want to put some of Eminem's similar comedic elements to my project. You'll definitely hear it and you'll immediately identify the similarities.
