Discover our exclusive interview with Steph Delz

Celebrating the success of his singles “Made Up Mind,” “Automatic,” “Big Mood,” “Our Thing,” and the upcoming EP lead single “Against The Odds,” Steph Delz is seeing his musical journey come full circle. After numerous attempts to catapult a career in music, Recording Artist and Music Producer, Steph Delz has amassed collaborations, respect and wisdom.

Fueling his collaborative efforts, Steph Delz has collaborated with some of the hottest upcoming Hip-Hop talents from the South, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions including Amaz’on the Goddess (featured on “Automatic”), Ill Muzak (“Big Mood” and “Against The Odds” (Prod. By Ill Muzak/AreaNasa Beatz), and JimBallzzz (Producer and Featured Artist, “Our Thing”). The year 2021 has shaped up to be promising for Steph Delz.

Steph Delz is experiencing a divergent buzz spearheaded by his brash personality and strategic disposition. He executed a full-fledged return to music in 2021, after first recording in 2003 and returning to producing music in 2017. Originally, Steph Delz (formerly Blak Caspur) began his venture in music operating as Chief Executive Officer of his own imprint, Ugez Entertainment (now Ugez Music) in 2003. Ugez Entertainment was the brainchild of Steph Delz, which he ran alongside childhood friends G-Style and K-Tru.

Between Ugez Music and his initial return in 2017, thwarted by personal issues, Steph Delz earned two Master’s Degrees and a Bachelor's Degree. He also ventured into creative writing during his first hiatus from music.

Now, with the future uncertain but motivation, renewed passion and momentum as his driving forces, Steph Delz is hell-bent on ascending toward high regard as a Hip-Hop/Rap heavyweight with his brand of Experimental/Lo-Fi Rap and a conversational, lyrical approach. Coupled with psychedelic, dynamic beats, Steph Delz is bound to capture the music industry’s attention.

We had the pleasure to discuss with Steph Delz, discover our interview with him right now:

1- Great to have you on our blog. Please, introduce yourself?
Hello. I go by the name of Steph Delz. I made my full-blown return to doing music at the start of this year. I first started doing music in 2003 alongside childhood friends. I am a Producer, Artist and Songwriter within the Hip-Hop/Rap category, looking to achieve my dream of making an impact through my music.

2- What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I really have a deep interest in Hip-Hop and Rap, wanting to intently study it. Given that the landscape has changed from a KRS-One, Redman, Digable Planets, 2Pac, etc., to the extension of the Southern explosion, I think that he main reason I wanted to pursue music again was to be a difference maker. While there are tremendously talented acts now, I did feel that I could occupy a niche that isn’t commonplace and display my passion in my own way.
Part of my desire for music to work for me is for legacy purposes. Hopefully, I am able to leave something for my kids that will elevate their lives and contribute to the art form so that Hip-Hop and Rap is more universal and diverse than it has been throughout its history.

3- Tell us about your new Single. And what’s the story behind it?
My newest single is titled “Against The Odds” and will be released on November 30th. The concept is driven by being candid and also trying to be uplifting via showcase of example. I am hoping to motivate others overall although, I was speaking my mind about certain things I am not fond of and reflecting on pieces of my personal life. I feel “Against The Odds” follows the course of me trying not to constrict what is on my mind.

4- What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
Firstly, I consider that my music is different than what is expected within the Los Angeles area. The direction I wish to take with my music is not being satisfied with trying to follow trends. I have seen that a lot of my music has been described as experimental and psychedelic. There are a couple of tracks that lean toward counterculture, as in taking elements from street culture.

5- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
I would say that an aspiring musician should try learning based on how they want to approach musical endeavors. I personally have always looked to have a DIY approach so I’ve had to figure out what boosts the process of recording and what steps to take to get a desirable end result.
If someone wants to put utmost focus on the music, they have to make decisions that will preserve their ability to put their all into the music. When you function as an indie artist, you have to figure out what works for you to best achieve as relates to the full-cycle of making music, and promoting and marketing the music.

6- Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My biggest musical influences are KRS-One, 2Pac and LL Cool J, although I also draw inspiration from Snoop Dogg, DMX, Kanye West and Eminem. It would be amazing to collaborate with Tory Lanez, Shelley, DaBaby, Janelle Monae, Wale and Tobe Nwigwe.

7- If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I would say thank you for even paying attention to my music. I am seeking to continue pursuing my dream and urge you to do the same. I don’t think anyone should be fine with not having fulfillment in life.

8- What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
After the release of “Against The Odds”, I will set my sights on completing an EP and then work on at least three additional tracks to release within the year 2022.
