Discover our exclusive interview with Ant Kelly and listen to "Big Pros"

1- Great to have you on our blog. Please, introduce yourself?

Thanks for having me! My name is Ant Kelly, coming from New Castle, Pennsylvania.

2- What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

When I was a little kid, I remember my father playing “Another Bad Creation” and “Kriss Kross” and I was genuinely enthralled at the fact that people as a young as me made music. I always wrote raps in class, at home, and I bought my first microphone in high school. Ever since then, it’s been a go. I gave up a few times but now I’m going full throttle with it. I ain’t stopping anymore, I love it too much and I love all of the feedback I get from creating a banger, it’s an amazing feeling.

3- Tell us about your new Single. And what’s the story behind it?

Well as of right now, I’m pushing this song called “Big Pros” that features another young artist by the name of M Wild. It’s more of $#%¥ talking record that we used an old “Dem Franchise Boyz” beat for. It was recorded at Black & Gold Recordings locally in New Castle and engineered by James Freed. It’s a high-energy based track that gets you in the mood to have a good time for sure.

4- What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

In my music, I touch a lot of key points that I feel like people go through but do not actually speak on. I try to make my music relatable for the audience as well as tell a story, while making it as catchy as I can to draw attention to it. Some artists talking about what may be trending worldwide but I keep my music personal.

5- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Do not give up no matter what. In this day and age, everybody is gonna call you a “SoundCloud rapper” and try to belittle you but do not listen to what anybody says, especially if making music makes you happy. Stick by your community as well and work with as many local artists as you can. Make your music career about your hometown and not just yourself. Do not be afraid to reach out to anybody about opportunities and always shoot your shot as they say because the worst thing somebody can do is ignore you or tell you no. Also, learn how to take constructive criticism but also know the difference between constructive criticism and hate. Whether it’s a listener or an OG musician, always take what they say into account if it’s genuine.

6- Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Nipsey Hussle is by far my biggest influence on his message and a music standpoint. I like how selfless he was throughout his career and I love the fact that he devoted himself to his community before anybody else when it started reaping the benefits of success. His music also displayed a lot of hunger and energy. On a business side of things, Dame Dash is my biggest influence due to how self made he is and how he paved his own way from scratch. As far as artists I’d like to work with, on a mainstream level it would definitely be Meek Mill, Jadakiss or Styles P, I listen to their music daily and it gets me in the mood to create. Aside from that end though, I really just wanna work with local artists and aid them all in creating a music scene for us in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.

7- If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I appreciate you all so much. Every share, like and comment makes my heart smile and makes me strive for greatness. Continue to support me because yinz will never go forgotten. I do this for everybody that supports, so without that support, I wouldn’t be creating heat for ya’ll.

8- What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I’m currently pushing the “Big Pros” song and the “Crack their Dome” song which is a Naughty by Nature just to showcase my skills as an artist, due to the fact that I’m currently working on an album. I’m not gonna name drop any artists that I plan I’m working with but they’re all from Western Pennsylvania. I’m going to the studio every chance I get to put in work for this project. The album is going to be called “The Castle’s Finest Vol. 1” and it’s gonna go crazy. I just want to make sure I have all the tools I need to promote it before actually dropping it.
